For those interested in the Boer Woer this rare
plate is an absolute must have. It commemorates
the arrival of Frederick Roberts in Pretoria on 5 June1900 (President Kruger
and his senior government officials having legged it leaving behind a general
state of panic).
Why anyone would want such an event celebrated in
a pressed glass plate we know not, but this may reflect a general state of panic
in Greener and Co glassworks which had recently gone bankrupt and been bought
out by Jobling & Co. We fear this item was hardly likely to solve that
10 inches in diameter and in near perfect
condition apart from a small frit to a scallop on the left hand edge.
