Not a Royal Cauldon Plate
The back stamp reads Royal Cauldon England Est. 1774 “Victoria”
This is truly odd – because Royal Cauldon Victoria Pattern looks nothing like this plate at all!!
What is going on?
There seems to be a second back stamp that has been superimposed on the first – it shows a shield with a willow tree on it and the words Willow China Stoke on Trent.
The design of this plate – we think the plant is Japonica – seems to have been hand-painted.
Small bits of the paint are missing – visible in our photo.
Otherwise it is an interesting and striking piece and it offers the opportunity to do some detective work.
About 6.75 inches in diameter.
Glaze a bit crazed.
