This strange little item
will make you gasp and stretch your eyes – a quite extraordinary tour de force one might say (or of
course one might not). Whatever, if you have been hunting for ages to source
that perfect and rare wedding gift…..don’t pass this one by without a second
thought.
It is cut from either continental
silver or (more likely) silver plate
It is a sort of 3 x 4 inches
It has a maker’s mark – two Rs
back to back – we are too lazy to
research this.
We have placed it on a cream
background (not very clever) for the photo but if you look carefully you will
see that it is entirely cut through – filigree you might say – like lace…
The central gothic window sports
a bunch of roses, the background is a pattern of bells and the words
Congratulations meanders all round the edge…
Strangely there are three
slots on the left – as if this were
attached to something (perhaps with white satin ribbon) – we know not what.
We have not cleaned it….
One of our number takes the
view that the carving is so fine it must have been done by acid etching… who
knows? We are certainly not going to
argue with this.
