Two Prints of Deer by William Samuel Howitt 1809/10

These two charming prints of deer have the name Howitt engraved into the picture.  William Samuel Howitt (1756-1822) was an English artist famous for specialising in sporting subjects.  These two prints, do not closely resemble others of the same subject by him – notably they do not have an engraved frame and title.  We suspect therefore that they may have been taken from a book. There is no doubt that they are genuine early 19th century engravings – the plate mark is clearly visible in both.

The Stag on its own has the following words under it:

Published June 6, 1809 by Edward Orme, London

The other: London Pub. March 1 1810by EDW. ORME Printseller to the King. Engraver & Publisher. Bond Strt corner of They are in quite pleasing plain black modern frames and we think they look good as a pair – which is why we are selling both together.  The price is not each but for the two.

Engraving size: about 6.5inches x 5 inches (17cms x 12cms)

Frame size: 12.5inches by 10.5inches (32cms x 26.5cms)

£9.50 per print is a steal but if you think you can get a better price try visiting the Manager's Office.
