Where? You know, Cockington – near Torquay (of Fawlty Towers fame) in Devon.
Yes that Cockington ‘The most photographed village in England Cockington!’ So picturesque is it that even the public toilets are thatched.
Maybe that is why the Forge – in continuous use from the 13th century to 1971 (shame boo boo boo hiss) – has been depicted on this old horse brass. And when we say old be do believe it to be so…(not a forge-ry) it is good quality brass – polishes up well, some signs of wear, it’s a good convincing item – although we are making no promises.
Incidentally there is a piece of music written in around 1932 by one Gladys A. Wood called “Cockington Forge – A Memory” but it seems to have been forgotten (number 2 in an album entitled Devonshire Days)…
