We are selling a teapot stand made from carbolic acid (phenol) and formaldehyde, mixed, heated, and then moulded and calling it Bakelite. Fie! Everyone knows that Bakelite was developed by one Leo H Baekeland in the USA in the early 20th century. This early form of plastic has since been dubbed ‘Bakelite’ indiscriminately ‘by many ill-informed dealers to describe almost any product made from thermosetting plastics materials’. Caution is advised when buying, it is understood that, under new European law, the name has been resurrected from its generic status to become the registered trademark of Bakelite AG of Germany.
So here we have it. A bakelite teapot stand with Made in England stamped on the base…. Okay you European Union lawyers – sue us – go on – go on.
Diameter 5¾ inches
Colour – tea brown.
